Abstract

In this project we considered the effects induced by the interplay of microscopic degrees of freedom. In many cases one has to regard spin and orbital degeneracy to explain complex structures of magnetic and orbital ordering. Frequently attention is focused on electronic correlations. We studied how interaction of electrons with lattice degrees of freedom differs from a purely electronic point of view. Due to orbital degeneracy we must deal with the Jahn-Teller effect. We investigated the E ⊗ β Jahn-Teller effect which allows a perturbative approach.
