Specific Heat

Physical Property Measurement System

PPMSFor the measurement of the specific heat of materials, a commercial physical property measurement system (PPMS, Quantum Design) conducting a relaxation method is used. It can reach temperatures as low as 1.8K and as high as 400K. Magnetic fields up to 9 Tesla can be applied.

Differential Scanning Calorimetry

DSC_cropIn addition to the above mentioned method we use a standard commercial DSC (Differential Scanning Calometry) apparatus (Pyris1, Perkin-Elmer) which measures the difference in heatflow between the sample and a reference upon heating or cooling in the temperature range from 100K to 650K. Measurements can be taken with temperature sweep-rates between 0.01K/min up to 500K/min.
