We study superdiffusion within a generalized Langevin equation approach subjected to external potentials, for which no analytical solutions are available. By putting forward the method of Markovian embedding, we derive tractable and reliable numerical algorithms giving us the possibility to investigate superdiffusion in different periodic potentials for a variety of superdiffusive friction kernels. In particular, we observe and explain the surprising phenomenon of transient hyperdiffusion.
