Inhalt This lecture covers the basic principles of modern X-ray, synchrotron and neutron diffraction techniques with the focus on instrumentation, data analysis, structural refinements and crystal structure analysis. The individual chapters cover the following topics:
  • Basic introduction to X-ray and neutron crystallography
  • Crystal growth and evaluation
  • Symmetry and space group determination
  • Background theory for data collection
  • Data collection techniques
  • Area Detectors
  • Fourier Synthesis
  • Structure determination by Patterson methods
  • Direct methods of crystal structure determination
  • Introduction to maximum entropy
  • Interpretation of structural refinement results
  • Excursion: charge density determination and analysis
