Nanowires

NW_blinkingWe study the influence of surface acoustic waves (SAWs) on the optical emission properties of single semiconductor nanowires (NWs). We employ the SAW (i) as a fast switch to turn on and off the light emission1 (see figure), (ii) to transport charge carriers along the NW axis or (iii) to control QDs2 and QD-like emission centers3 in heterostructure nanowires.

This work is a collaboration with the groups of Gregor Koblmüller, Jonathan Finley, Alexander Holleitner and Gerhard Abstreiter at the Walter Schottky Institut, TU München
