Wildbad Kreuth is located in the very south of Germany, 140 km from Augsburg and approximately 65 km straight south of Munich, in the midst of a marvelous Alpine scenery, close to Lake Tegernsee.

In the map on the right Wildbad Kreuth and Munich airport are marked by the lower and upper pink circle, respectively.

Public transportation from Munich to the conference site:

Munich is the capital of Bavaria and you will most probably pass through Munich when you travel to Wildbad Kreuth. If you arrive at Munich airport or Munich main station on Sunday, September 26, we recommend that you use the train to Tegernsee. Wildbad Kreuth is about another 12 kilometers south of Tegernsee. A train schedule and additional travel information can be found below (see also map on the right).

Trains from Munich arrive at Tegernsee station at 37 minutes past the hour. On Sunday September 26, 2004, there will be a shuttle service from the Tegernsee train station to the conference site in Wildbad Kreuth for the trains arriving at 1:37 p.m. until 8:37 p.m.. Tegernsee station is very small; the driver of the shuttle will stand at the track where your train arrives, holding a sign with the Workshop logo - you cannot miss him/her.

How to get from Munich to Wildbad Kreuth:

1. From Munich main station (München Hauptbahnhof) to Tegernsee

There is a train leaving Munich main station to Tegernsee every hour at 34 minutes after the hour. The first train leaves Munich main station (track 27-36) at 6:34 a.m., and the last train leaving at 21:34 p.m.. The fare is 9.90 Euro. You must buy this ticket at the train ticket counter of the Bayerische Oberlandbahn at track 30 before you start your journey. You can also buy a special "Bayernticket" for 15 Euro and use it for up to 5 persons.

The train ride to "Tegernsee Bahnhof" takes one hour and three minutes, arriving in Tegernsee at 37 minutes past the hour.

After you have arrived in Tegernsee see instructions 3. below.

2. From Munich Airport to Tegernsee

Please buy a train ticket from Munich Airport all the way to "Tegernsee Bahnhof" at the train ticket counter or the ticket machine at the airport before you start your journey. If you arrive at Munich airport, please proceed as follows:

  1. Arrival at Terminal 2 (Lufthansa and Star alliance):
    Please walk to Terminal 1 which is only about 200 m away and buy your train ticket there (see below).
  2. Arrival at Terminal 1:
    Please walk to the main hall ("Zentralbereich"). The train ticket counter is open every day from 7:30 am to 10:00 pm. Buy your train ticket to Tegernsee at this counter. It is located right at the escalators leading down to the tracks for the S-Bahn (city train) to Munich.

You will have to change trains once at Munich (see below). The ticket from Munich Airport to Tegernsee is 15.30 Euro. You can also buy a special "Bayernticket" for 15 Euro and use it for up to 5 persons.

First take the S-Bahn S8 (city train, track 2). Please make sure that you indeed take S-Bahn S8. In order to reach the connecting train to Tegernsee, take the S-Bahn S8 which leaves the airport at 45 minutes after the hour. Exit at the Munich station "Donnersberger Brücke" (two stops after Munich main station). You should arrive at track 1 at 28 minutes after the hour. From "Donnersberger Brücke" you then take the train from track 2 to Tegernsee which runs every hour at 37 minutes after the hour. It arrives at "Tegernsee Bahnhof" exactly one hour later.

For example, if you take the S-Bahn S8 from the airport at 11:45 a.m. (track 2), you exit at "Donnersberger Brücke" at 12:28 (track 1) and take the train to Tegernsee at 12:37 (track 2). The train arrives in "Tegernsee Bahnhof" at 1:37 p.m.

After you have arrived in Tegernsee see instructions 3. below.

3. From Tegernsee Bahnhof to Wildbad Kreuth

Trains from Munich arrive at Tegernsee station at 37 minutes past the hour. On Sunday September 26, 2004, there will be a shuttle service from the Tegernsee train station to the conference site in Wildbad Kreuth for the trains arriving at 1:37 p.m. until 8:37 p.m.. Tegernsee station is very small; the driver of the shuttle will stand at the track where your train arrives, holding a sign with the Workshop logo - you cannot miss him/her.

You may also take a taxi from Tegernsee to the conference center at Wildbad Kreuth. The price is around 20 to 25 Euro.

Return transfer from the conference site to Munich on Wednesday, 29 September, 2004:

On Wednesday, 29 September, 2004 there will be a bus leaving Wildbad Kreuth at 2 p.m. which will first stop at Munich main train station and then continue to Munich airport.

Schedule on Wednesday, 29 September, 2004:

  • bus leaves conference site at 2 p.m.

  • arrival at Munich main train station at approximately 3:15 p.m.

  • arrival at Munich airport at approximately 4:15 p.m.
