Cultural Activities

Augsburg

There is the possibility to visit the famous external linkAugsburger Puppenkiste (website in german only). Visits to the Augsburger Puppenkiste (theater with puppets on a string) ought to be organized privately.
In Augsburg's old town you find the famous external linkFuggerei: The Fuggerei was constructed between 1514 and 1523 by Jakob Fugger the Rich. In the letter of endowment in 1521 he laid down that needy citizens of Augsburg should find a home in the Fuggerei. In return the residents since that time have to pay one Rhenish gulden (0.88 €) per year, as well as say three prayers every day. Lifing history!
You may also want to visit the external linkDiözesanmuseum St. Afra (website in german only). A special exhibition shows some exhibits of modern art collected by Pope Paul VI. Among them you find collected work of Henri Matisse, Georges Rouault, James Enso, Gabriele Münter, Max Ernst, Emil Nolde, Hans Hilgenkamp, Graham Sutherland, Otto Dix, Rufina Tamayo, Giacomo Manzu and Salvator Dali.
