Inhalt n this course the basic principles of electron spin resonance (ESR) and optical infrared spectroscopy as tools to probe the dynamic spin susceptibility and the optical conductivity will be treated. The course is divided into lectures/seminar talks in the morning and practical work in the afternoon. Written exercises will support the understanding of the contents and will have to be handed in at the beginning of the lectures.
Vorkenntnisse Standard knowledge of solid state physics is a mandatory prerequisite: lattice vibrations, electron gas, magnetism (para-, ferro-, antiferromagnetism), optical properties of solids. Participants should be familiar with the corresponding chapters in the textbook by Charles Kittel "Introduction to Solid State Physics".
