Superconducting Box Coupled to a Classical Environment

The number of Cooper pairs in a superconducting box is well quantized if the charging energy is dominant. On the other hand, finite temperature and Josephson coupling lead to charge fluctuations. We discuss the influence of a classical environment containing only low frequency modes on the charge quantization in the box. In this case the role of the environment becomes especially transparent.
